Web development is an evolving skill. Even the most experienced website developers can learn new tricks or streamlined ways of solving web development problems. Web Development Recipes by Brian Hogan, Chris Warren, Mike Weber, Chris Johnson and Aaron Godin, published by O'Reilly Media is really a gem that will be a handy reference for many developers. I'm impressed with the content of this book because it's a hands on tool that addresses bettter ways to develop and maintain code ranging from creating buttons and maps, creating html email templates to creating interfaces with jquery mobile.
Not a book for beginners, this book fits squarely into an intermediate developers range, and will appeal to developers who understand and are familiar with html, javascript, and coding. It's not an into book as much as a pragmatic book of recipes to add functionality to your websites.
Some of the content that I was impressed with included:
- Adding an inline map
- Building a simple contact form
- Creating interfaces with jquery mobile
I found the writing style to be easy to follow, and the more complex skills were broken down into terms that were easily digested. The workflow recipes, for example, helped streamline processes that are involved with different workflows for layout, content, CSS, javascript and code, addressing debugging issues and developing testing solutions and heatmaps.
i would definitely recommend this book to intermediate developers and advanced developers who wish to improve their skills and pick up new tricks. If you are looking to learn how to build more responsive client-side interfaces, or to streamline workflow, you'll find a wealth of information on these pages.
