NJ SEO Is Just Like SEO Elsewhere, Except...New Jersey SEO!

NJ SEOThere is a diffence between NJ SEO and New Jersey SEO!  Yes, I appreciate that is confusing, but bear with me.

What is SEO?

SEO or search engine optimization is the "art" of refining a website so it's easily indexed by search engines and therefore does well in ranking.  When you want to be "Number one on Google", what you are really asking is to have your website optimized for search.

There are many things that go into SEO, starting with the site architecture, including appropriate analysis of keywords, placement of keywords, keyword density, anchor text, metadescriptions, inbound links - the list could go on and on.

For purposes of this article, we are discussing selecting appropriate keywords.

I often am asked by local NJ businesses how to create a geo-targeted website. There are several ways to do this, but everything hinges on evaluating and selecting the best keywords first.  This may take some time because in order to get the best keywords, you have to have a pool of keywords to choose from.  I use several tools to create a robust source of words and to suggest alternates, including HUBSPOT's keyword grader, Raven Tools, SEO Moz and Samarai Tools.  I also use Google's free tools - most notably the adwords tools.

Once I have a pool of words, I then begin to rank these for the greatest volume with the least competition.  If the word are too general, they will bring unrelated traffic. There are words that people use when they are just beginning their search which are different than the terms that someone will use when they are deeper into their purchase activity.

The reason I suggest the 'NJ SEO' is different than 'New Jersey SEO' is because even though you may feel they are the same thing, there are a different number of searches for each term.

It all depends on what someone is typing into the Google search bar.  And all of this information is monitored and available!  By doing the analysis instead of guessing, we can optimize website pages for words that have a better liklihood of success.  By success I am referring to traffic... conversions are dependent upon other factors such as content and call to action features.

One more SEO Tip that is important - don't fall victim to the idea that you will have your website optimized and then you are done with it.  The Internet is a dynamic environment and every day there is more content that is added.  Coming up organically for any word or phrase can change every second, and as the search engines continue to refine their algorithms, so too, must a website continue to evolve by adding fresh, dynamic, robust content.

How often do you evaluate your web presence?  Are you confident that your website is performing the best that it could be for you?
