Social Media Marketing Addict? Me Too! What's Your Favorite?
Posted by Jody Raines
Addicted to Social Media? I definitely am. For more than a few reasons, but not the least of them is that the ability to communicate with your potential customers and to listen to what is being said about your company or your brand is critical for businesses that
xpect to survive or thrive.
Social Media marketing is here to stay.
The definition of 'addiction' by Merriam Webster is as follows:
Main Entry: ad·dic·tion
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈdik-shən, a-\
Function: noun
Date: 1599
1 : the quality or state of being addicted <addiction to reading>
2 : compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine
, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful
So, the state of being Social Media addicted - does that define the love affair I have with social media? Never before has the playing field become so equalized as it is now.
There are some advantages to being addicted. These advantages include increased exposure, market awareness, ongoing interractions with others. The disadvantages are that it's time consuming.
But there are no calories!
My favorite Platforms in Social Media? Of course, the big three, Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter. Obviously I am a proponent of blogging. Then there are others that I also use and favor - YouTube, Flikr, GoogleBuzz, Posterious, Digg. There are others that I've dipped a toe in to see if I like it or not, FourSquare, Squiddoo, UStream. There are so many it's hard to keep track.
That's why it was particularly exciting to me to be part of the Addicted to Social Media team when we had the opportunity to interview Loic Le Meur of Seesmic.
For those who are involved (addicted to) with Twitter, it becomes apparent, somewhere between 15 and 100 followers, that its next to impossible to manage the stream. A platform to manage that stream makes it an entirely different experience.
Seesmic is a great platform and the exciting revelation that it will now have plug in or modular ability to integrate multiple platforms is incredibly exciting news.
With the team of Neal Wiser, Social Media Consultant and Seth Goldstein, Web Master we have the distinct pleasure of interviewing Loic Le Meur for the Addicted To Social Media Postcast. There are some funny moments, not the least of which are Loic's description of how Seesmic determined what their logo would be (its a racoon).
